News on July 12, Renesas Electronics issued a statement yesterday saying that the Kawajiri factory, which was temporarily suspended due to lightning strikes on power lines and caused an instantaneous voltage drop problem, resumed normal production on July 11 as originally expected, and production capacity has returned to Level before shutdown.
Renesas pointed out that when the instantaneous voltage drop occurred, the semi-finished products (work-in-process) that were being produced on the production line of the Kawajiri factory were partially destroyed, but the number of semi-finished products destroyed was less than expected, so the semi-finished products were destroyed and the factory utilization rate fell. The loss of production is equivalent to about 1 week of production, and the loss is lower than the original expectation of about 2 weeks of production.
Since Renesas Electronics is an important global manufacturer of automotive MCUs, the reduction in losses at the Kawajiri plant will help alleviate the shortage of automotive MCUs.
